Scene Nearby is a travel app that helps you discover movie and TV filming locations around you. This policy explains what information the app collects and how it is used.

1. Location

Scene Nearby uses your device's location to show filming locations nearby and to send alerts when you are near a saved location. Location permission is optional and requested with your consent. The app may use precise GPS location to provide nearby results and proximity alerts.

2. Accounts and Sign-In

You can use Scene Nearby without signing in. If you choose to create an account, the app offers passwordless email-link sign-in, in which we send a secure sign-in link to the email address you provide. We use that email address to authenticate and associate your account with the content you contribute. Signing in is optional, and you can revoke it at any time by deleting your account in the app. Account and authentication data is handled securely by our identity provider (Google Firebase) under its own terms.

3. What We Store On Your Device

Most of your personal preference data is stored locally on your device only, never on our servers. This includes your saved locations, watchlist, notification preferences, alert radius and distance choices, onboarding answers, visited and dismissed locations, and your home city. Nothing in this category leaves your device.

4. Cloud-Synced Community Content

If you contribute to the community — such as worth-it votes, visit-time tips, a photo, or a suggested filming-location update — the content you submit is stored in our cloud database so it can be reviewed and, when approved, shown to other users. These community contributions may be associated with your account identifier, and an email or display name is included only if you choose to provide one. Contributed photos are reviewed before they are published. If you opt in to public credit, your chosen display name may appear with your contribution. You confirm you have the rights to any photo you submit.

5. Minimal Server Use

Scene Nearby makes brief server requests to load the catalog of filming locations and nearby-search results. These requests do not collect or store your personal information beyond what is technically needed to serve results, and we do not build profiles of you from your browsing.

6. No Sale of Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone. We do not use advertising trackers or share your location data with advertisers — the app is ad-free by design.

7. Third-Party Attribution and Licensing

Filming-location information and photos may draw on third-party sources (e.g. publicly available film-location databases and photo libraries). We attribute and license this content appropriately and in line with each source's terms. Navigation is provided through third-party map apps (Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze); tapping Navigate hands off only the destination and your chosen app handles it under that app's own privacy terms.

8. Data Security and Retention

We take reasonable steps to protect information you send us. We keep contributed content only as long as needed for the purposes described here, and you can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.
